About Friends of Birthwaite
Friends of Birthwaite is a not-for-profit, resident-led community group for the people living at Birthwaite Flats.
The group exists to bring residents together, strengthen community spirit and help make Birthwaite a welcoming, enjoyable and inclusive place to live. We provide opportunities for neighbours to meet, take part in activities, volunteer and have their voices heard.
We work with residents, South Lakes Housing and local organisations to support community projects, improve shared spaces and respond to the ideas and needs of the people who live here.
Jean White
Treasurer
Jean oversees FoB’s finances, maintains clear financial records and helps ensure that community funds are managed responsibly.
Glen Duclos
Chairperson
Glen leads the committee, supports its members, and helps ensure that FoB continues to work in the best interests of Birthwaite residents.
Hazel Simpson
Secretary
Hazel supports the administration of the group, including meeting records, correspondence and keeping the committee organised.
Zak Wood
Social Secretary
Zak helps plan, promote and coordinate FoB’s social events, activities and community communications.

Why are we doing this?
We want to make a difference to improve living at Birthwaite, in many different ways. We believe that we can make a difference through engaging with residents with various activities and events. We believe this will help improve happiness, health & wellbeing. Everything we do is for the benefit of the residents and supported by the residents, their families and friends.
How can you help?
Firstly, you can help by supporting our activities and events by getting involved. Involving could mean that you attend or if not able then you could encourage your family and friends to do so. Your family and friends getting involved could mean that they attend or volunteer. We will be looking for volunteers to help with every aspect of what we do. Especially our events including our gardening projects.
How do you and your family & friends Volunteer?
Firstly, volunteering as a resident is really easy just let one of our committee know what you would like to help us with? If your family and friends want to volunteer, they can contact us on the details below. NB Volunteering can be for as little as 4 hours a month on a gardening project or for a specific event like a BBQ. Do you have a skill we can utilise?
What and when are the events?
We have created an annual Events Calander. Our events include a Christmas Ball, Halloween Party, Themed supper nights (Indian, Chinese, Italian & Pie nights), BBQs, Quiz night, Casino Night, Wine tasting, Table top sales, Walking group and Over 60s exercise classes.
Donations and Giving
Whilst our Association is not for profit many of our events will have an element of fund raising to ensure we can offer these events for free or at a low cost to our residents. Your family and friends are very welcome and we would request an appropriate contribution dependent on the event. Contributions could be a one-off donation, a regular donation or a legacy/gift in a will. For more details, please contact the Friends of Birthwaite Committee.
We are also intending to apply for funding and grants to support the work we are doing here. If your family and friends work for an organisation or a business that is able to support us through sponsorship and grants, please contact the Friends of Birthwaite committee. PS we are always looking for raffle and auction prizes.
